Kunst

Dear readers,

Today I have been working on a lot of practical things. Next week on tuesday I wil have an appointment with somebody who wants to see my work – so I might have the sides of the canvases painted and the surfaces varnished! And that takes time too…

It is fun to watch back and see the first one that I painted that big (the blue one – 100/100 cm, 40″/40″). I made it on a 10 years old canvas that I stretched myself – the one and only big canvas that I ever made, before dropping the brushes altogether and not paint in 15 years or so.

So I finally painted the sides of the blue one and now consider it finished. I still like it!

I also painted the sides of one of the white paintings – the one with the more earthy colours. I am still doubting about that one. It is much more rough and messy. I like that but it also am doubiting about the messiness. So I’m not sure yet. Maybe I leave it like that and see what happens.

And also I finished the first one with the black and white checkers. I like that one very much!

Also I painted another layer on two paintings, with the leftover paint. Only an underpainting…

I am sometimes thinking: why am I writing this all down? Is someone reading it (yes, at least one!). I do it because it keeps myself accountable. But I also hope other people get encouraged and start creating daily. And I also hope that I will get inspired by them again!

bye!

Simone

    Thanks Dotty!

    No: I won’t stop!!! ;-)
I paint the sides of the canvases in the main colour of the canvas. For instance: blue for the blue one, and white for the ones that have mainly white on the surface. And I use the foam brushes again. I just like them very much (I got the idea from Flora Bowley who uses them a lot. Otherwise I would never have thought about them!)

I use Acrylic Picture Varnish Mat – from Talens. Don’t know what would be better: matte, or half mat/half shine (or how do you call that?)

Yes, I am leaving the messiness for now, I can always change it.

    Thanks!

Simone, so much wonderful activity in your studio!

What color have you painted the sides of your canvases? Do you use a bristle brush or a foam brush? What will you use to varnish your paintings?

I vote for you to leave your ‘messy’ earthy painting as is for now. Don’t change it until after you have seen the whole group finished and arranged in a variety of ways.

What an exciting time this is in your painting life!

Do NOT stop writing your blog and posting your paintings. Do NOT.

    : )
