Dear readers,
Today I worked further on a small series of three paintings (40/40 cm, 16/16 inch), in very simple colours. I first thought: these are the first of many layers, but now I think: I like it when it is so simple.
They are definitely not finished but I am going to see: they might stay really simple and transparent.
I was encouraged to think like this by Nancy Hillis, who somewhere describes that one of her students made a painting in 10 minutes, very beautiful, with strong marks etcetera.
And then this student painted most of it over, because she thought she was supposed to create many layers. Something could not be that good if she only made it in 10 minutes.
I am not saying that my paintings of today are so good, but Nancy’s remarks made me realize that sometimes less is more.
Thanks!
Simone

Thanks Dotty!
It is indeed fun after all those weeks and months of very colourful creating that something so simple turned up. For me also a surprise!
Simone, I appreciate your discussion above. I remember the same story from Nancy Hillis. AND, I was also struck even yesterday by the beauty of these paintings, by the beauty of their simplicity. I will enjoy seeing where you go and where you do NOT go with these three. Either way, happy creating to you!
