Lieve mensen,

Lieve groet!

Simone

Dear readers,

Today I painted on the size 50/70 again. Yesterday I was in the flow today but today I was just doubting and thinking.

Eventually it was just okay. But I  think that the power of daily painting is that you do not ask yourself each time: ‘Does this make sense to do this? But you just keep your rhythm. Not focus on the result (which of course you always do again) and the next day you go back to your painting.

With love, and I wish you well painting!

Simone

I see Joy. I see Horton Plaza mall in downtown San Diego. (Now Westfield Horton Plaza). Such a fun place, and the colorful architecture has a lot to do with it. There are spots on the top deck, where you can look out onto the city, and ships at Coronado. It is right next to the Gaslamp district, and your repeating elements at the bottom bring those to mind as well. 🙂 Take a look at some images, and you will see you have perfectly captured a sunny day at Horton Mall.
But it is more than that. It is memories with friends and family.

      Dear Sheila,

Isn’t is nice that you (and also Dotty below) have such wonderful poetic images coming up when seeing this painting!
      Thanks for your support Sheila!

I always like it so much when you have such poetic connotations! Only now I see the sun shining in this painting…

    Simone,

Thank you for the gift of sharing some of the inner responses you have while you are painting—letting us know that sometimes you are in flow and sometimes you are doubting and thinking … as I’m assuming is true for us all. But aren’t we reassured to know that we are not alone!

I look at your painting and the viewer in me is in no way concerned with whether or not you were in flow. The viewer in me responds from a different place than mind. That viewer is on a sidewalk in New York City, stopping to look up past the tall tall buildings to remember sky and universe. I am pulled through portals to reconnect with mystery, with sun, with the vast beyond. To know fully in my soul, even if but for a moment, that life is so much more than my little feet scrambling around frantically down here on earth.

    With love,
    Dotty
