Kunst

Dear readers,

Today I worked small again (15/15 cm, 6/6″), on paper. I used black tissue paper for collage.

Today I used the children’s brushes from Ikea for the first time (they are 1,99 euro for six brushes). They are actually quite good! I used the ones with the fine point: really great!  A good bargain if you compare it to the ‘real’ brushes from the ‘real’ artsupply-store.

The other thing is that I prepared a few pieces of paper for a few random-sized pieces of left over mdf. I decided to cut paper exactly at the right size (drawing around the mdf-pieces). The sizes will be ‘strange’ (like 10,5 x 27 cm). But I then can use those strange-sized pieces of leftover mdf in stead of letting them hang around my workspace – not be able to decide to throw them away, and not doing anything with them. And furthermore: it will be cheap. I don’t need to buy panels.

The last thing is that I painted the sides of a bigger painting – still had to be done for the exhibition.

I have been thinking a lot about making art this morning. How important it is to just get started. Very small. It does not matter how or what, you can only start with Ikea brushes and the cheapest pencils and watercolours that you can find, and just start doodling, making stains, glueing stuff on other stuff. No plans, nothing serious. Just start going, keep going, and the rest will follow.

And especially: don’t wait for others to ‘want’ your thing. Or think: nobody is waiting for my art. There is already so much art. I will never be able to make a living out of it (if is that what you want anyway).

Just know that you want to make your art, and let that be the only driver. Keep learning, keep experimenting, keep growing.

Bye!

Simone

Simone, so much cheer in your painting today. It is bright and upbeat, has a carefree innocent energy. A perfect antidote for my morning—I woke to a dark cold house courtesy of the nor’easter rain storm we’ve got going here in New England. At the moment I am at a Starbucks borrowing their light and heat, and cheering myself with your art.

Thank you for your thoughts about art making. Very timely for me. Very affirming.
