Today I worked further on Jane Davies assignment: working in black and white.
I more or less finished two of the five, I hope to finish the last three tomorrow, and then I can post in on the class blog. I am really working hard to get everything done ;-)
Oh: I discovered Instagram last friday. After hearing everybody about it I finally set up an account. As if I have time to do all this!

Oh yes: another thing: this weekend I picked up photographing again, thanks to Instagram. Really inspiring. It is beautiful weather here right now, autumn and sun all over the place, so beautiful autumn light.
I like to take photographs, but Instagram gives it sort of a purpose: I can post them there.

I work very fast. Like a madman. Because I have lots, lots of other work to do ;-), but don’t want to skip my ‘homework’ for Jane.
Maybe I work too quickly – it is getting messy and rough. But I kind of like it also that way…
So nice to do this thing together!
(Actually your paintings from today looked quite ‘rough’ too. (Like the splatter of black paint, the flowing drops. I really liked that!)

I especially like the b&w on the left, with the crayon circles that overlap your big black shapes and are white on black and black on white, and with the “aged” look on the big black shapes (did you lift paint?)—very effective. How much time are these paintings taking you? One of my discoveries in this class is that my natural modus operandi is not to work quickly—actually, that’s not a discovery as much as a confirmation! And a disappointment. I’m hoping to push myself with whatever the next assignment is, to work more recklessly and intuitively. Stay tuned.
