Dear readers,
Today I am working further on the second 70/90 painting. Again more or less the same turquoise colours: it is a second one in this series (consisting of two paintings).
It is still messy, but I already sort of like it! The big black stripes might be a little be too much. But I like the stack of ‘stones’ almost falling flat ;-)
I am looking forward to putting more orange on the surface, since I very much like the complementary colours ‘pop’.
I am curious if I will cover the next painitng with things like glued paper, sand or something like that, or leave it flat. I like the texture it gives, but it also makes the painting more ‘restless’. It is nice to have some complexity, but not too much!

Yes, I find it indeed sometimes difficult to cover things up. Especially when there are all those beautiful colours flowing into each other. And then putting an opaque layer over it seems so rude!
But actually it often makes it more interesting. Too many ‘layery things’ are getting confusing and overwhelming. An opaque layer gives the eye some rest, so you appreciate the underlying layer even more…
Hmm: enough artphilosophy for now!

Simone, I like seeing the evolution, watching what you choose to cover, what you leave in view, what you add, what you change. Not for the first time, you provide a courageous model for creating layers, something I tend to do more easily as a way to cover something I don’t like than as a way to create depth and interest—which often might require me to cover something I like very much! Funny that you mention glued paper in this post; I was JUST recently thinking back to when I first discovered your blog and you were often using textural layers such as glued paper.
