Kunst

Dear readers,

Today I tried to finish nr 4 in the series that I started a while ago. I keep working on it, but I guess I am spoiling it more and more. All spontaneity is gone! So I might just put this one in a deep drawer.

The other thing that I’m going to post is my ‘homework’ for Jane Davies Color Class. The idea was to take two colours straight out of the tube, construct two shapes and paint the exact in-between-colour. This way the two shapes seem transparent. Looks easy: but takes more work than I thought. You have to create even steps between the two colours. Which means putting only a little bit of blue with the yellow, for instance.

Here you see my four examples.

Thanks for visiting, and have a nice day!

Simone

    Thanks!

Yes, it was more or less a ‘construction piece’ this morning. I even put little pieces of black and white paper on it, and photographed it, just to see how the design would work out. But I more felt like a ‘designer’ than an ‘artist’ at that moment: all spontaneity was gone. But maybe that is part of the whole painting game too?

Yes, and I will continue on this one. So I will keep you posted!

Simone, thank you for sharing your ongoing process with #4. It is SO helpful/instructive to see your process. It is a gift to me to see the complexity of what can go into a single small painting, a painting that is a reflection of the very human aspects and interplay of intuition and thinking.

All part of the big picture (the big painting, if you will) of life!

I encourage you to keep playing with #4. Or, if you put it in a deep drawer, to take it out again later. I am currently reading a long book, using the bookmark I painted a month ago after great struggle . The process was one where I lost all spontaneity and all visual pleasure for a painful amount of time, but in the end a piece of art that now brings exquisite pleasure every time I behold it.

Thanks also for sharing your Jane Davies color homework. Fascinating. I may take that class.
