Today I continued working with the palette knife. Big fun again! I also worked with a marker. Usually, I don’t like the acrylic paint marker so much. The lines are so straight and don’t have much ‘aliveness’ in it (like for instance crayon or Indian ink-lines have). But because the palette makes for such a heavily textured surface, the ‘artificial’ line of the marker is a welcome contrast.

Loved your discussion of paint markers. I have used them happily and freely in many paintings where they’ve actually been the perfect tool to generate carefree scribbles and wild tracings to great effect, but in my most recent work they have felt like the wrong tool altogether—as you say, so straight and don’t have much ‘aliveness.’
