This morning, I had an interesting experience.

I am a real nature-lover, and I hope to live one day in a natural environment (right now I live in a suburb – which is more than okay, and I’m very grateful for our small but perfect house, but it’s definitely not in the middle of nature.)

So, I dream about a (tiny) house, somewhere in the woods…

But then I thought: well, I can dream about that beautiful tiny house in the middle of nature, but first, I can appreciate that what’s already here. I live close to a beautiful park, and I have a small but lovely garden.

The weather is now very beautiful in the Netherlands, so I walked outside, and took a look at one of the flowers in the garden – a clematis:

Then I took a closer look at one of the flowers: and on closer inspection, I saw a tiny slug, and a tiny grasshopper:

The grasshopper (right above the middle of the heart of the flower – difficult to see) had tiny, striped legs – beautiful! I would never have seen the grasshopper, when I wouldn’t have stood still (oh, my English!) and looked with a fresh look.

What a lesson! I can dream about my tiny house in the woods, but if I don’t see the grasshoppers in my own garden, right here, right now, I won’t see them anywhere.

I took this insight to my painting table, and looked with a fresh eye to the scraps of collage of Japanese paper, that I already had. And took photo’s of some details. That’s not new for me, but very enjoyable!

Then I cut out one of the details on business-card size, and enhanced it with a drop of Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and some white crayon and black marker.

Here’s the result (on the left, you see the scrap without any enhancement, on the right, I’ve put some paint and marker on it:
