Dear reader,
Something new every day! Today I did not even use a ‘proper’ substrate. I just took a piece of newspaper, cut a square or 6/6″ (15/15 cm), and started painting and collaging. SOO nice to do. I don’t know if you can see the head of the man on top of the painting? I have never used this kind of imagery in my paintings, but I think it’s kind of fun! I also love the graphic character of the newspaper on the lower right. All surprises for me today. Just at a day that I thought: nothing creative will come out of me today;-)
Bye!
As ever, I am grateful for your exquisite modeling of experimentation and freedom of expression. Thank you!
If you find yourself with an idle moment and the urge to spread kindness, I’d love to have you mail me a few sheets of paper with text in Dutch. Whenever I see newspaper or magazine text in your paintings (a) I like the fact that it has all the visual delight of text without the distraction of meaning (for me) and (b) I have fun recognizing an occasional word or phrase from my time of living in the Netherlands as a child.
Example: what jumped out from your painting today for me was the word lekker because it was one of the first words I learned in Dutch and it was the name we gave the dog we got when we lived in the Netherlands!
Hi Dotty! How fun to hear about your dog ‘Lekker’ (great name for a dog ;-)) I know what you mean, I also love to read words in another language. You don’t know the meaning (always), they carry you away immediately to a world you don’t know. I for sure will send you photos of newspaper!
