Daily Painting: Rough

Daily painting

Dear reader,

Today I worked on wallpaper, 30/30 cm (12/12″). I worked in a quick, messy and rough way. I try to loosen up as much as possible, not care about the outcome, not judge, not think. The outcome does not need to be beautiful. The only thing that counts is the freedom that I feel.

A beautiful way to start the day.

Bye!

Simone

Ps. I noticed something today (not for the first time). Always when I post my photo’s, I like the detail more than the whole. The detail has a graphic quality over it that the whole does not. I’m going to try to work on giving the big painting the same graphic quality as the detail. I want both, the detail and the whole, to have the same quality of composition.

Love the rough quick messy organic feel of this piece. The collaged newspaper bits look like rough tree bark that I want to lean into and feel against my skin.

The freedom that you feel is evident in your paintings and is, I think, what first drew me to your work and, I know for sure, what KEEPS drawing me to your work.

I identify strongly with your postscript : )

Yes, it’s an interesting idea, isn’t it – that the whole should be as strong as the detail? Worth exploring.
