Kunst

Dear readers,

Today I was quite proud of myself. Eventhough I had some annoying computer troubles and a lot of other work to get done, I decided to paint anyway. Happy with that!

Probably a lot of other things don’t get done today, but: first things first! (except sometimes of course ;-))

Today a next step in the bigger painting. I can’t help seeing a creature coming into being. You see the blackwhite pattern coming again. I worry that it is a ‘trick’ – but then I think: who cares? It is some paint on canvas – why not just try it out?

I am reading two very inspiring books right now, from Austin Kleon: ‘steal like an artist’, and ‘Show your work’. Very inspiring, and he says the same: work every day, do a tiny thing everyday. It was already what I preach the whole time, but I get it reaffirmed here.

Interesting: yesterday I wrote about the difference between working from intuïtion and working from ‘thinking/composition etc’. Just the same day Nicholas Wilton wrote a (reassuring) blogpost about it. He puts intuition first (like me), but he also sees the value of thinking, stepping back, scratching your head, etcetera!

Have a nice day!

ps: the photo is quite bad – due to the wonderful weather we have right now, just for one day ;-). The sunshine makes it difficult to take the photo well.

I was glad too I painted.

ps: I wanted to mail you today with a question, but my mail does not function. So I’ll try later!

Simone, thank you for deciding to paint anyway today, for the smile of today’s steps in the emerging of this piece, and for introducing Austin Kleon for me to track down. All gifts!

Your art invariably touches something in me, something I can’t name or identify in words but which feels recognized through your self-expression. You tap something in ME that wants its own self-expression. It is glad to be tapped.
