Dear readers,
Today I worked on mdf, I had some leftover pieces. It is hard, but different from wood. Wood is softer, you can carve in it more easily. I did not find it a very easy material to work on. I found myself much more ‘struggling’ with composition and so on, instead of painting freely. I guess you can taste that in the painting. But it is okay. Step by step!
Bye,
Simone

Prachtig werk met mooie kleuren …..
Hoi Nadine,
Dankjewel voor je reactie, wat leuk!
hartelijke groet,
Simone
Yes! I totally remember making those kindergarten paintings covered in black and then scratching the black away!
I had almost forgotten!
Thank you!
Yes: when I look at it again, it is not ‘that bad’ ;-).
Actually: the scratching is really nice. So much fun to scratch in a painting and see other colours coming back. It is like this thing we did in Kindergarten: make a painting, cover it all up with black wax crayons or something like that, and after that make a painting in it, scratching the black away. Did you do that too?
Simone, I didn’t taste struggle in this painting, although the scratched places do convey unyielding resistance behind them. It’s hard to know after the fact, but those hardnesses may actually be highlighting and bringing energy to the softnesses in the painting.
In any case: I love its bright colors, its contrasts, its unexpected color pairings, its asymmetries, its playful childlike energy.
