Dear reader,
Today, there’s a new kid on the block: ‘Gold Yellow’ of Amsterdam Acrylics. The beautiful thing is, that it’s opaque. You probably know that I’m kind of stuck with Turquoise and Green Turquoise from Amsterdam Acrylics, (often topped with the more expensive and more intense Turquoise Phtalo from Golden). And that’s not only because I like those colors much, but also because both Turquoise and Green Turquoise are very opaque. Which makes them very useful for quieting a multi-layered painting down.
But sometimes I miss the warm tones of yellow in the painting. Of course I often use Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, my all time favorite, but that’s a kind of brownish yellow. Beautiful, but not very bright. Plus: it’s very transparant. So not suitable for covering up. I could mix it with white, but then I absolutely don’t get the brighter yellow that I would like.
I already had this Gold Yellow of Amsterdam on the shelf for ages, but never used it very much, since it has a ‘hazy’ color. And, as I found out, that’s because there’s a lot of titanium white in it (which tones down the yellow pigment), but what also makes it opaque.
Okay, long story short:Â I present you: ‘Gold Yellow’. Don’t know if I’m in love with it forever, but at least for now, it’s interesting to have some yellow in my painting ;-)!
Here it is (it’s on A5 size, approximately 20/15 cm, 8/6 “).
