Dear readers,
Today I’ve been experimenting with ‘finding compositions’. I’ve talked earlier about it in this blog. In that blog I tried to find compositions in a painting that I already made and didn’t like.
Today I made a piece of paper especially for that purpose. I took a piece of copy paper, made random marks on it (in the meantime practicing with mixing colors – that’s a beautiful theme for another blog).
It didn’t have to have a nice composition, I only needed to have fun making marks and using colors. Not difficult ;-)!
After that, I made a ‘paper window’ – another piece of copy paper with a square cut out of it in the size of a business card.
See the video for the process, and the photo’s below for an idea of the ‘composition paper’ that I made, and the final choice. The light is very bad: it’s still half-dark here in the Netherlands right now.
It’s not finished yet – eventhough I think it’s already nice. Maybe I’ll try to finish it next Monday. (Or spoil it, who knows?)

Here’s the piece of ‘composition paper’:
And here’s the composition I chose (not finished).
Bye!
Thanks for reading this blogpost, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Simone, this post sings a vibrant song to me! Like you, I love the freedom, playfulness, and exuberance of making a chaos layer and then following with the more meditative exploratory act of seeking compositions in the chaos. Such delightful surprises and discoveries. Thank you for your video and your beautiful painting!
Thanks, Dotty! Iit’s a bit like ‘finding stillness in the midst of noise’…
