Daiy Painting: Using newspaper as substrate

Daily painting

Dear reader,

Today I had a flash of inspiration, and I started to paint on a piece of newspaper (about 30/50 cm).

I did it because I want to experiment with how you can place the bar as low as possible for painting.

The beautiful thing about newspaper is that it costs nothing. Because of that, you feel you can spoil anything. And second, because there is already ‘something’ on the paper, it is easier to start. You don’t have a daunting white surface. Third, I like the layer of printed letters that sometimes shines through. See the detail.

Bye!

Simone

I’ve always loved typography and newsprint makes a super starting point not only for its economy but also for the mystery of what was said, what is being said, through the type and words.

I couldn’t have put it better, Beth ;-)

Love the text showing through, love the way the fold creates a horizon here and suggests a reflection which in fact is not a reflection but even so the gift is that my eyes love traveling all over the painting to ‘figure it out.’

Thank you, Dotty. Did not think about the fold that is of course a part of the overall design/composition. Maybe I could even have used it more intentionally, the fold. Next time!
