Dear readers,
Today I felt somewhat tired of all this big painting – so I returned (after weeks or maybe even months) from painting on 100/100 cm to 20/20 centimeter.
And loved it!
Just could work on my table, no fussing around with big canvases. Hairdryer at hand – everything dries withing a minute. So much easier to work.
I was inspired by Sheila Arora (a wonderful artist I ran into on Instagram – she makes awesome work, check out her webpage!) to use earthy colours and purple and grey – Colours I don’t use that much, or at least have not used in a while. Purple especially is a colour I hardly use. I had bought a bottle of dark olive green and had not touched it, and the purple crayon in my Neocolor II-box was still untouched (unlike the other ones). So all kinds of new things today: working small again, and using unusual and muted colours.
I actually very much liked working with the muted colours again, especially after all this brightness of the past months. And I discovered again that using muted colours strengthens the power of the bright colours.
Inspired by that I took the leftover paint and the two big paintings that I am working on (only underlayers), and added some grey and olive green to them. Fun! This was: ‘jump, and the net will appear’ again… This is really the power of daily creating. By sitting down and just starting new things happen, new ideas enter, and new energy too.
I wish you a good panting day!
Simone

Burnt out. Disoriented. Topsy turvy.
I wonder what Jane would think – that this is the result of her workshop ;-)
I recognize it very much: what a hard work it was. I didn’t make it to the finish, but I have tried hard to keep up until lesson 9.
Hooray for you arriving on the finishline!
Simone, I am so grateful to be inspired by you. I am finding my way back into a life that does not include making 10 paintings a week for a class! I feel a little topsy turvy and surprisingly disoriented and significantly burned out.
BUT, you shine light that brightens my outlook. Thank you!
Love that you played small today … and with a change of color palette. Look at that purple! Look at that dark olive green, and that gray!
Jump, and the net will appear. Yes.
