Dear readers,
Today I started painting with a little knot in my stomach. Don’t know why. Did not know what to do, and I guess I was not in my ‘beginners mind’, but worked with some end in mind (exposition coming closer!). I made a painting a while ago on canvas, also 30/30 cm, that I really liked, and I think I sort of had it in mind. That never, ever works…
But what I liked: I did not feel like it, but I painted anyway. No question that I would not paint. I saw a quote lately on instagram, and I pinned it (here you can find it). It said: You never change your life until you change something that you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. I can’t agree more.
So: I guess in terms of productions this day was a bit ‘lost’. I am probably going to paint most of it over tomorrow. But in terms of development and keeping the flywheel going, this was a good day.
Enough preachting for now!
bye, thank you for reading his blog!
Simone

I totally agree: there is paint on paper where there was no paint before… I like that expression ;-)
And of course I agree: you never know where this painting will go. Today I was a little bit identified with a painting that flowed (flew?) out of me in one stream. No painting over at all. But it is not true that all paintings go like that. And that all paintings that go like that end up good. And that all paintings that don’t go like that end up bad… Etcetera!
And how wonderful to realize that painting is a centerpiece of your life. I will reflect on that by myself…
Simone, you may have FELT a bit ‘lost’ but from where I sit, everything about your painting day was good! Whatever you paint on any day IS production: you have produced! There is paint on paper where there was no paint before you picked up your brush. It is not for us to know ahead of time what the journey of any one painting will be. This one may include a start day and a paint-most-of-it-over day; both days contribute equally to the painting. And, of course, you kept the flywheel going—valuable beyond measure! I was just reflecting over the weekend on how painting is the centerpiece of each day for me—I am filled with awe! For most of my life (decades!) I didn’t paint, and now I do. Every day.
