Kunst

Dear readers,

While I was a bit shocked about my actions yesterday (painting almost the whole beautiful coloured painting over with a lot of black, white and pink, glueing newspaper with my hands on the canvas (hardly could get it out of my hair afterward) – today the havoc of yesterday gave lots of possibilities. When everything is lost, why not start building over again?

Since I glued newspaper on the canvas and also had used a lot of paint, the canvas has a lot of texture now. And I actually like it – at least for now. It gives some rawness and depth to the painting that I love.

I used almost only my big 7 cm wide foam brushes. That gives a whole different feeling and effect than the smaller ones. I also was happy with the pink/orange colour: it is a mixture of yellow, red, pink and magenta. Because the four colours don’t mix completely it also gives some ‘textured’ effect.

And because of the texture it was easy to scratch in it with a sharp knife. Using crayon is a bit more difficult though.

This one is definitely not finished, but at least I am happy with the process again! The photo’s of the details are better than the big one – always difficult to photograph a whole painting. I actually also like the composition better of the details. Makes me think: why should I not start thinking ‘bigger’ when it comes to composition? Why should the composition of the whole not be more like a detail (am I clear?) Interesting to experiment with that later on.

Bye!

Simone

Most of this beautiful pink is now already overpainted… Unlimited possibilities, yes, indeed!

I keep thinking about how much I like these very simple compositions. Would it be possible to transport something of this simple beauty in the bigger paintings?

Wow, Simone—a fresh wind is definitely blowing through your studio! Glue, newspaper, rawness, depth, knife scratches, mixed colors, havoc, texture, and unlimited possibilities. I’m eager to see where this particular painting takes you, and where your thoughts about composition (details/bigger) take you.
