Daily painting: working within restraints

Kunst

Dear reader,

Today I continued working where I left last Friday. I started to work the (artist quality) color pencil. I would never have thought that I would like them that much! The fact that they are artist quality makes a difference. I always thought color pencils don’t have intensive colors, but with highly pigmented colors it’s different.

They don’t work over the acrylic paint; they only work directly on paper.

I worked again with Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Neocolor II crayons, and black paint.

It is fun to work within restraints:

It is easier to let the painting come together (since I do not use too many colors).

It does not cost too much time (which is good since I am working hard on another project, but I don’t want to drop my art practice).

It creates less of a mess (which saves time cleaning up).

And I know for sure there are more reasons, I will write more about that later.

Thanks!

Simone

Ps: below I show some of the process (three phases of the paintings) and quite a few details. Because there are those subtle layers of color pencil underneath, the painting has a lot of beautiful details).

Yes, the process photo’s are fun to do! And I enjoy this short bursts of painting too. It works well for me at this moment. Later, when there is more time (will that ever arrive?) I will go back to the big canvases.
I hope it works for you too right now.

    Bye!

Simone, I’ve been meaning to say for awhile now that I am enjoying your use of descriptive titles—it’s fun to get notice of your blog post and read the title each day!

Thanks especially for the process photos today. I really like being able to see the development of this piece.

Again, I have to say that your model of working for a short time is helping me navigate my own painting right now. yay! Thank you.
