Dear reader,
Today I worked on five-minute paintings. I learned this concept from artist Jane Davies – check out her website, she is wonderfully generous with tons of free tutorials on her website.
Five-minute paintings are an excellent way to overcome procrastination, self-doubt, perfectionism, and inertia. The recipe is: get your art supplies ready, set a timer for 5 minutes, and: GO! Decide on an amount of paintings you want to make, I would suggest at least three or four. Don’t worry that you have to be ‘original’ in every piece. Make a series, you don’t have to come up with something completely new every time you start.
I love five-minute paintings since they give an excellent possibility to lose yourself in painting. There is so little time that you simply have no time to get lost in thinking and self-doubt. The stakes are low: nobody will expect you to make fantastic art in five minutes. You just are trying out a bit. Seeing what you can do in only five minutes.
Below you find my three paintings of today. To be honest: there were four, but the first one was so horrible I did not feel like photographing it. If you want to see today’s paintings in detail, just click on them.
Have a wonderful and creative day!
Simone

Yes, you are right! It is difficult to get a feeling for that ‘series’-idea on Instagram. Also, all the posts are square – so that does not match the A4-size
Glad you like them!
I love these five-minute paintings, and I’m glad for the invitation to try my hand at some myself. What strikes me here (and in a way that isn’t possible on Instagram) is that in just a few minutes you created a striking series of paintings! All with one color palette that unifies them but each distinct from the others. All bright, playful, and engaging. They hold such a feeling of freedom and experimentation, which is what I love about your painting.
Awesome!
